There is a cable bundle (usually on the starboard side of the engine...near the starter
they can come loose easily. Check that. When I come across those I usuually hold them together with a wire tie.

Thanks I'll check. I cleaned all ofthe connections from battery to starter, including grounds with no luck. But gave up as I'd been in to engine compartment for quite a while and getting aggravated. It worked fine last week, and this suddenly happens I figure they have to be connected.

Is there any timing of the pump when you put it back in?
As long as you use the same shims, the timing won't change.

Be very careful to make sure the governor fork is engaged in the rack on the injector pump during reassembly. There is an inspection plate to remove for verification. Check it a second time, then a third time. If this isn't right, the engine could run away to destruction the first time you start it. This is the only control on the engine, both starting and stopping. I doubt you could shut the valve at the fuel tank fast enough to save it.
