Hi,
I am completing a 40ft
solar powered
catamaran. The
electric ouboard motors have just reached the
import distributor and I have yet to pick them up. The company is a specialist in
hydraulic steering systems on large
boats and trains. The original
builder of the
catamaran built it with the view of using two 60HP petrol powered outboards controlled by
hydraulic steering. He has already bought several lengths of very expensive hydraulic pipe and some manifolds, but nothing to connect to the motors themselves. The distributor suggested I bring in what I have when I collect the motors and see what could be fashioned. I hope to do this some time this week. In a conversation with my brother-in-law, he suggested I might look into controlling the motors via wireless servos. He is a model car enthusiast and suggested something similar to what is on those might exist for
outboard motors? Is this the kind of thing EPropulsion are using on their new X12, X20, and X40 range of
electric outboards?
I have bought Aquamot Trend 15.0
outboard motors as they run at 48V (unlike the EPropulsion 96V range) and will slot in easier with my LiPO4
battery banks and
solar inverters.
Anybody got any
experience with
steering on cats, hydraulic, servo or otherwise?
