Smoky Perkins 4-108, lets narrow down the....

How about we narrow down the fault finding chart of a Perkins 4-108. Lets start by saying that she smokes white/blue when cold and misfires. Engine starts imediately cold (no glow plug), no loss of power. Smoke dissapears and runs clean under load (1300 RPM). Brand new fuel filters and clean fuel. Noticed little fuel/oil maybe, but looks like unburnt fuel out of exhaust (floating on the water). No water in crank case, no oil in water etc, etc...Clean prop and bottom always. What am I missing and what can I start ruling out? Thanks,

The misfiring sounds like injector problems. The spray pattern has to be right or you get poor combustion and smokey exhaust. A pop test will verify the spray pattern.

Pull the injectors and have them serviced by a shop that specilizes in injection pumps and associated parts.

The 4-108 injectors need to be overhauled every 400 hours.
Some guys go 1000 hrs, but then you will get smoke and worse.

I run mine at 2100 hrs, 70% of max continous, seems to be the sweet-spot.
