15W40 seems to do the deed.
Yeah, I have had several oil-analyses done and they came out squeaky clean..: Lots of life left in the oil..Minimum wear and tear, etc.

Very happy with me multi-grade oil for the 'ol diesel, BUT also open to better ideas and better advice.

Most times a good multi grade will perform just fine. But if you do go for a multigrade when previousely you havn't used such, just keep an eye on your oil consumption. If the engine suddenly starts using oil, then change back. The most common engines to use Multi grades are Japanese engines.

I asked the folks at Sabre/Perkins about using multigrade in my 4-108:

Quote:
Thank you for your Email dated 7 December 2007

We confirm it is in order for you to use multigrade engine oil for your Perkins 4.108M engine.
Multigrade oils are listed for use for your engine model and 15W40 multigrade oil gives a good ambient temperature range.

If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.

No offense CSY but I suggest that OP open the link to the engine manual for "his" engine, which I provided, and follow the advice in the manual for his engine.

Anything else and you are a test pilot...
