Seized nut on Volvo-Penta folding propeller

I have a Volvo Penta 120S Saildrive with 3 blade folding prop. Bad news is the large 1" bolt holding the hub on to the shaft has seized. Has anyone any suggestions for removal, before I cut the prop hub in half? For instance, can I remove the bolt tangs, and slip the hub over the bolt ?

Re: Seized nut on Volvo-Penta folding propeller

I had trouble with the blade retaining bolts a while back and used a product called "PB Blaster" penetrant. Then used a good socket with a decent length handle and the previously frozen bolts came out pretty easily.

I hope this works for you!

Re: Seized nut on Volvo-Penta folding propeller

It's going to take a lot of grinding to get the prop hub splines over the nut....

Put the PB blaster in the hole for the lock bolt, that will get it on the main threads. Then use a 24mm socket.... Put one blade as far into its slot as you can and jam the blade with a block of wood against the hull bottom, then use a big breaker bar with the 24mm socket.

Or, try an impact wrench.

Thanks for the suggestions, and especially for the pic of the offending nut.
Having rounded off the corners it is now time to get a little more brutal with this beast.
PB Blaster seems to get a lot of good press. will definitely try that.
