The rudder! Or maybe a shaft anode ahead of the P or A bracket if you have one.

Unless you are applying force to the shaft it will stay where it is.

I said if you are not going sailing or getting towed it will not fall out. Are you putting in another engine? Do you intend to move the boat before you put in the new engine? If so put a zinc on the inside of the boat to prevent the shaft from sliding out. In the boat is staying where it is now you don't need to worry.

Good to know. I am waiting on a new beta engine for a few more weeks. I am cleaning everything up right now and preparing for the new engine. I need to get that coupling off, then I plan on cleaning and painting the area.
