Rust Dust on Brand New Raw Water Pump

Hi,
I just installed a new Sherwood water pump">raw water pump 2 weeks ago, and the base/non-bronze part of it is already coated in rust powder.

Should I be treating this with something, or should I not worry about it?

Thanks

Take it off, clean it and paint it with an epoxy paint, that will seal it.
