Re: Replacing original black iron tank

Any suggestions on how to safely cut up the old tank to get it out? Cut off wheels tend to throw a few sparks . I could use a sawsall, but it might take lots of blades. Maybe throw a chunk of dry ice into the tank and let it fill up with CO2. (With lots of ventilation)

Re: Replacing original black iron tank

sawzall will not work for cutting sections against bulkheads or hull. While sparks were scary, emitting heat and molten metal, a bit of commons sense and attention to detail worked for me. I put a shop vac into deck fill to create negative pressure in order to make environment inside the tank somewhat manageable.

Re: Replacing original black iron tank

My iron tank leaked and the problem was I wasn't on the boat and the tanks were in parallel so I lost 1000L as the bilge pump did overtime. Trouble was the leak was behind the tank on the bulkhead ! I took it out (had to chop a big chunk of it to get it out (wet blankets stop it burning!) Thought about fixing it and decided to make one from epoxy. That was 10 years ago and all good.
