Replacing my Yanmar ysb8 with... any suggestions?

I am currently in the research phase of replacing my Yanmar ybs8.

I am looking for something in the 2 cylinder category that is roughly the same size.

Also if anyone has the dimensions for the ysb8 that I could use to cross reference my measurements ,it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The killer a lot of times with boats built around the horizontal yanmar engines is the vertical clearance.

Measure from your shaft centerline to the engine beds, then from your engine beds to the overhead. It may be a game of whatever fits vs what you’d like to have.

I'm fairly sure they are the same as a YSM8 & you can find a dimension drawing in the workshop manual online for free here; http://www.powerequipment.com.au/wp-...12-Binder1.pdf

FWIW.
Please remember your YSB8 uses a LH prop while most new engines require a RH prop. Something more to spend your money on

The Beta engines are pretty small!

I hear great things about the BETA MARINE engines. I'm looking for my next boat right now, and anything with a Beta goes to the top of the list!

There is a consensus building that for a great many practical reasons, the Betas based on Kubota industrial engines are the wisest choice for re-engining. The smallest Bata available is a 10HP. If OP is accustomed to an 8HP he might appreciate the extra couple of ponies. Next Beta up after the 10 is a 12.

A prop change to change the "handedness" may well be worth the expense.

GordMay, That is the most complete set of YSB-YSE material I have seen.

Spent a fair bit of time searching for that service manual as well. I especially like the brochure, and I can assure you that has nothing to do with the bikini girl on the cover.
Many thanks!

TrentePieds, Am hearing much of the same.

Looking into them now, as well as the Yanmar YM 15 and GM 20, as recommended from some of the other users.
Thanks for the council.
