replacing core plugs on Volvo MD2030

What are your thoughts on using the appropriate sealant or no sealant when replacing the core plugs on the motor. In this case it is the very small plugs in the head, They are about 15mm in diameter. RTV silicone, Permatex, to name a few options.
Looking forward to your thoughts.

Re: replacing core plugs on Volvo MD2030

Personally I use non-hardening Permatex#1, the old stand-by black goop in the tube. In this case you need something that resists both antifreeze and oil.

If you want a laugh, go to google and input “ sealant on freeze plugs”. You’ll get the whole gamut of answers, from dry installation to silicon to permatex to paint to Indian Head shellac, and everyone says they are successful.

So there ya go.....
