Re: Raw water pump not priming at idle RPM

95% sure the intake is fine. Boat was hauled recently.
I also checked the intake by pouring water into the strainer, and it drained just about as fast as it was poured in. Last thing I want to do is take a swim our waters.

So if the diesel starts causing you stress...perhaps consider electric. It may cause other issues....range anxiety.but will definitely solve your diesel maintenance issues!
I think the cost and time to replace an 84HP diesel engine with an equivalent electric motor, and considering the cost and weight of the batteries needed, I think I'll stick with plan A and go with the replacement discs for a start ($15 and 5 minutes to replace)

Re: Raw water pump not priming at idle RPM

Fixed.
Replaced the two discs in the Speedseal cover plate.
Also fitted a new impeller (without the slots), and the cam.
The plastic (PTFE) disc in the cover plate was well worn, and most likely the main problem.
Anyway, now picks up suction no problem.
Thanks for the advice, it all helped.

Re: Raw water pump not priming at idle RPM

Good morning,
Perhaps a little bit late. Check also the raw water filter. Specialy if you fill it and it gets dry after 1-2 minutes. If the generator is cooled by water with a coil, check if you have a piece of impeller stkucked in that place.
Have a good day.
