RACOR 500MA INLET VALVE

has anyone added a shutoff valve in line before the RACOR. 500MA diesel on a Westerbeke BTD8 generator

My fuel line in, has no shutoff valve , the design of the boat was that if the RACOR was located high compared with the tank, such a valve was not needed. However, I would like to install one . Now the easiest I can think of is a valve to purely screw in both ends. No need to cut fuel line. That would mean a female to male valve where the male goes into the RACOR (or the adaptor in my pic). has anyone ever done this? what product did you use, a pic of mine is attached, it has a female female adaptor also as opposed to the fuel line male going straight into the RACOR, metric vs imperial maybe ?

btw I know I need to drain the bowl, PO never did, just changed the filter. I've thread stripped the bowl at the drain already on one of the main engines so am steeling myself to do it carefully and treat this old bowl with the TLC it deserves

Thanks, those valves are for the drain so you don’t need spanner to drain the Racor bowl. So you think it will work fine on the fuel line inlet also ?

Yes.
See 'Valve 1', in the Installation Diagram [pg 2]

Re: RACOR 500MA INLET VALVE

I have a fuel shutoff on the inlet of my Racor 500. Use it when switching filters, shutting off the fuel for the winter. I also have a primer bulb between the tank and the filter too, makes refilling the filter housing easy!
