Here is a link to the Groco ARG strainers on my website. Groco Raw Water Strainers ARG500-ARG2000
I will surely try your shop first if I decide to go the buying route. It is nice to have shop owners participating in the forums and I will be happy to support them

Re: Racor 500 and Groco Water Strainer for Catalina 320?

I found spares for Racor R15S 2 micron on Ebay Looks like resonably priced to me. I am considering to buy 2 units and replace the one I have. Would this be a reasonable path? Would I need to bleed the fuel after putting this one? This bleeding thing is a little complex and I would like to make sure what I am getting into.

Also, I read Racor units allow on the fly changing, I am not sure if this is applicable to mine, any ideas?

Both appear to be doing the job. I would replace the strainer with a bronze larger one before the fuel filter (replace the element though... I'd not go to 2 micron unless you have a bypass.... easier to clog up!) Some fuel filter changes go fine without bleeding... some dont. I like to manually fill the filter with fuel before screwing it on... that usually does the trick.

Re: Racor 500 and Groco Water Strainer for Catalina 320?

Only one gotcha if you order the Racor 500 yourself. The threaded holes on the Racor 500 are not a standard tapered pipe thread. You will need to order a pair of adapters from the straight thread used on the body to whatever pipe thread you want to actually connect it to your system. You don't need to order the Racor adapters as they are available from a good plumbing/hydraulic supply house, but it's easier. The plastic baskets in the Groco are the way to go.
