Problem with Removal of Lower Unit - 15HP Yamaha Enduro 2 Stroke
2016 Yamaha Enduro 2 Stroke 15HP
The lower unit seems to be being held on by something - The Manual (not for this model) and Videos just show it dropping off easily, but mine will not come off.
I have removed the 4 bolts as well as the gear shift rod (see Pictures)
What else am I missing?

Hmmm
You have the shift linkage removed
Hmmm
It should just slide apart
Hmmm
Only the splined driveshaft and push to fit water pump connection are left
Hmmm
Double check the part diagram to be sure that nothing else is left
Hmmm

Re: Problem with Removal of Lower Unit - 15HP Yamaha Enduro 2 Stroke
Silly question.
Did you try rotating the prop back and forth a little bit by hand while attempting the pull the lower unit off?
Do you have a clearer pic showing what’s between the two parts? I can see the impeller housing. But can’t see what else is between the two.

Unfortunately I do not have the exact manual for this model/year - Just a Generic downloaded Yammy 15HP Manual

Try calling a dealer that sells two strokes, I don’t have any idea either. About all it could be is the drive shaft, but as it’s already moved an inch I don’t think it’s seized

Re: Problem with Removal of Lower Unit - 15HP Yamaha Enduro 2 Stroke
I just dropped the lower unit on an old 50hp evinrude 2 stroke.
It did almost exactly the same thing, drove me bonkers until I realized there was an o-ring on the splines of the drive shaft. The years had made this thing hard. I shove the lower unit back up and dropped it several times with prejudice until the o-ring tore enough for the unit to drop.
Not saying you’ve got the same thing, but it’s possible.

Might try turning motor upside down and and applying liquid wrench or PB Blaster to slide down the drive shaft into the spline area. That might have some corrosion. Let it sit upside down reapplying judicious Blaster overnight. With a block of wood and hammer gently alternately tap the lower unit with the motor in the upright position, clamped to a fixed position so the lower unit is clear of the floor.

Water tube may be holding it. Try spraying lube of some kind (WD40. PB Blaster etc.) on top of water pump housing. Move up and down with authority then try slight twist and pull downward to see if it comes apart. Don't think there is an o-ring on top of the drive shaft on that year.

Re: Problem with Removal of Lower Unit - 15HP Yamaha Enduro 2 Stroke
You have all the necessary fasteners removed and all need items disconnected. You have got some corrosion on the Driveshaft splines where they go into the crankshaft. See if you can, turn the motor upside-down and spray WD40 on the driveshaft, through the small gap between the cases. Use liberal amounts, wait 24 hours, you may need some less than gentle persuasion with a rubber mallet to get it off.

Yes, you do need to remove the Shift linkage lock nut.

5 lb sledge with wood placed between hammer and housing. Apply on blaster liberally overnight. Tap tap tap. Make sure lower end protected when she breaks free.

Had the same problem with a 4hp Evinrude last week. The drive shaft was frozen to the crankshaft at the spline, it did not give up easily!
