Pricing Volvo Glowplugs
For a Volvo Penta D2-40 the 'genuine' Volvo glowplug lists @ $130+ each.
For the NGK from JEGS with the same (apparent) specs the price is ~$29 each.
On Alibaba, also with the same (apparent) specs, if I order 500, the price is ~$0.60 each.
Does anyone have experience and/or advice on sourcing aftermarket products for Volvo Pentas?
Does anyone want to share 500?

Re: Pricing Volvo glowplugs
Thanks for the references.
For those interested, I eventually purchased NGK 2649 YE01 glow plugs from JEGS High Performance in the USA for $22.09 each delivered.
Given I needed eight (8) plugs, that is a saving of ~$800 on the Volvo list price.
The original 'Volvo' plugs are NGKs with a different number; the specs, thread sizes, pitch and length of the NGK 2649 are identical to the originals. What data have I missed that might bite?

Re: Pricing Volvo glowplugs
Nothing - the Volvo plugs are rebranded NGK. Volvo does not make them, nor have them made specifically for them. They have NGK put a different number on them, but there is no real difference. You have essentially OEM plugs now of a different color.

Probably nothing. Slightly different heat range may change your pre-heat times. I've worked on engines using multiple makers plugs in the same head.

Good Stuff !
Do they look identical? Lol
you'll find once over the "fear factor" story -% 80 has quite suitable automotive replacement.
All the Best

No, Volvo's are green! (that's a joke - the replacement parts probably are not painted).

Re: Pricing Volvo glowplugs
Many of the Volvo multi cylinder diesels (not the MD series) are actually VW engines. Compare with VW glow plugs, since they are common and cheep. There was another thread about Volvos being Volkswagon. It is worth a look. Good Luck ______Grant.

That's a new one for me. All Volvo small diesels (<75hp) from the past 20 years have been Perkins engines.

Re: Pricing Volvo glowplugs
I learned about Volvo, and Volkswagon on a mid 70s Volvo station wagon. A Volvo dealer told me to look on the side of the cylinder block, and sure enough there was a VW with a circle around it. I mentioned this on CF and several people confirmed that their Volvo marine engines were actually VW industrial/ truck engines. I dont remember what the title of the thread was, but it was interesting. It may not apply to later Volvos at all. I dont know if and when they changed to some other basic builder. Just another tid bit of info. _____Grant.
