Pneumatic vs centrifugal governors in marine diesel?

I am rebuilding our Mercedes OM636 and got the information that marinized versions are almost exclusively built with pneumatic governors. Anyone had first-hand experience comparing mechanical/centrifugal types to pneumatic?

Nobody? Anyway we'll try to save the original pneumatic governor. Very rusty but working. If that fails than test the mechanical one.
