Please identify fuel filter on my YM 2MQ20
I have bought boat with Yanmar 2qm20, but looks like it has only one fuel filter in the system, as well (secondary? It is just one mounted in the engine and the last before High pressure pump) filter is not matching with Yanmar Service manual. Looks like previous owner replaced the filter.
Now i am looking to find element and ring for it, but obviously have no idea what look for.
Please help to identify it.

Is there a filter in the canister? If so, take it to your friendly local auto parts store and ask for a duplicate. Then note the number for future reference.
If not, take the bowl and bolt with you and hope they are, indeed, friendly.
Consider adding a Racor to the system so that you can control the number of microns in the filter holes.

What tkeithlu says +1.
Additionally, the filter inside may well it's part number printed on it.

Re: Please identify fuel filter on my YM 2MQ20
Thanks, for advice, I am looking to put Racor, but little bit later. For now, i want to replace cartridge in what i have.
My question if you recognize the filter cup, it looks painted the same paint as motor and mounted on the original bracket. Maybe it is from some sister motor model or so.

You should consider putting the Racor before the secondary.
Usually secondary filters are mounted directly onto (into? )engines. I assume you have found an engine manual. If so, the photo could show your primary. Sorry, not familiar with the 2Mq20, but many folks are. All the best.

Just between us, if you did find the Yanmar filter number you still wouldn't want to buy it from them. If there is a Yanmar filter in that barrel, take it to your friendly local auto parts store and ask for a duplicate. They are just folded paper with a rubber rim, and they have lots of uses.

I don't think it is a Yanmar fuel filter; it doesn't look like the fuel filter housing that Yanmar used on the small marines of that era. Of course, it may be and I certainly haven't seen every Yanmar fuel filter!
It is nothing like the Yanmar fuel filters on my YSE8, 2QM20 and 2GM20.
It looks a bit like an old small CAV (or similar) housing like one might see on 1950s British farm machinery.
Pure speculation - some of these smaller Yanmar marine diesels had an optional engine mounted fuel tank and these tanks had an internal fuel filter element. If this engine had such a fuel tank and it was removed in the past for a hull mounted tank, someone would have needed a fit a engine mounted fuel filter and they may have used whatever was handy i.e. not a Yanmar filter.

Re: Please identify fuel filter on my YM 2MQ20
Seems Yanmar does/did make a filter/separator like that; the Yanmar p/n for the cartridge for it may or may not be 120324-55760, but that might be a starting place if the local parts store can't help...
As far as I can tell, the number above fits the housing shown below, and likely others.

Re: Please identify fuel filter on my YM 2MQ20
People, looks like it is easier to put Racor or similar one instead and forget about this old unknown one?
BTW, does somebody use these?

or

Looks like pretty low price vs Racor, is Racor so much better?
Another related question, what filter rate is USUALLY used for marine diesels? Sure, as fine as better. Is 10 microns enough?
Is any sense to put 2 filters sequentially?

It's customary to have two filters. Off-engine Racors make good primaries and they also act as fuel-water separators.
On-engine (or close-to-engine, like you have) are secondaries, more typically spin on (but apparently sometimes like yours).
Engine makers often recommend X-micron primaries and Y-micron secondaries, or at least Y-micron secondaries if they're silent about primaries... so you can check your Yanmar manual. Or sometimes you can make an educated guess if you can learn the density of recommended replacement secondary cartridges.
Otherwise, common filter densities for older mechanical diesels are 30-micron primary and 10-micron secondary.

The Racor will last a lifetime, the cheap knock-off MAY last a lifetime. YMMV.

Re: Please identify fuel filter on my YM 2MQ20
I'm going to my boat today, I have the same engine and I think I may have that same filter, it looked like it during the survey.
There are multiple spares onboard so I should be able to get a brand and part number for you.

Re: Please identify fuel filter on my YM 2MQ20
10 micron on a Yanmar may be fine for the primary, but the secondary is based on the injector nozzle size. An old Perkins 4-236 can use a 5 micron secondary but a newer Yanmar with the finer injectors may need a 2 micron secondary.
