Perkins Prima no start

Cranking speed OK

Bled Fuel lines....fuel to injectors...(not too forceful)

Could there be a problem with the electric shutoff?

Starter solenoid seems to have given up the ghost.

Any Ideas?

If it failed off, you would have no fuel to the injectors, but you said they were ok?

Did the start problem occur after ya changed filters or after ya had the injectors overhauled or some such routine maintenance?
(Air in the lines for sure)

If ya touched nothing and the engine just refused to start, no fuel or dirty fuel/clogged filters.
Bad injectors or a bad high-pressure pump would be more gradual.
.
(That being said, a friend had engine problems and called today to say that water had corroded parts of his high-pressure pump and that would stall the engine at the wrong time as some part or some sleeve on the pump would not move at the right time, and stop the engine at the wrong time.)

I have some Perkins time under my belt and can state to God and to Mankind that the only time the beast have stopped working was when I ran out of fuel and another time when salt water filled up one of the cylinders creating a vapor-lock. Other that those self-induced problems Mr. Perkins have been rather faithful and very forgiving of mistakes and abuse.

On the prima injecton pump is there a bleed screw?

I cracked the nuts at the injector...fuel came out, but I amused to a more "forceful" squirt.

Hmm, I guess ya bleed the high pressure pump as well as the injectors.
(Since I installed an electric fuel pump som 7 years ago, I have never had a bleed problem and forgot the problems and details. )

should be a Mitsu, similar to a VW. External pump. I can't remember if it's a plunger solenoid stop or Bosch internal solenoid stop.
If your getting fuel to the injectors in good strong squirts. Then I'd say the stop is working and the IP is working. Go back to the basics.

If the engine do no even try to start, I would suspect a problem with fuel. Redoing the whole bleeding process carefully to remove any air in the lines, in the filters, and by unscrewing the pipe that goes to the injection pump and Cranking to expel any air. Then, the injector one by one by opening a bit each return pipe, one at the time. Then full throttle and it should start. Hopefully .

Tried Bleeding...several times.

Changed all filters

Removed stop plunger (electric) checked for operation...OK

When cranking the engine over.....the fuel seeps rather than squirts wit any force from the injector line....

In addition, there is no smoke or even much of a diesel "smell" from the exhaust.

Since this has a OHC and Toothed belt driven injection pump....could it have "slipped timing?

The next things I am going to do is remove the front cover and see if there are any timing marks....(The Shop manual was allowed to get wet BTO and is worthless)

If the timing marks look ok I am doing to do a compression test....

After that it looks like the injection pump is coming off.

Opinions?

Well being you, at least we should be able to rule out bleeding not being done correctly. Although yes, there should be a bleed screw on the IP. You need to bleed the filter, the line to the IP, the IP itself and then the lines to each injector and in that order. However......
I am leaning toward an IP problem if you are suspecting a poor fuel dose. However, the best way of testing that, is to remove an injector, refit to the fuel line and then crank over and see if you get a spray of fuel. A couple of revolutions at the most should show you what you need to see. You will see one of three things.
A fine spray of fuel, which means fuel system is OK, fault somewhere else.
A poor squirt or dribble of fuel, which means the injectors need servicing. This will flood the cylinder and will not ignite the fuel during compression.
No fuel at all, which means you could have
a fuel shutoff problem, or
an injector pump problem.
If it is an IP problem, it is possible the governor or fuel rack is not operating correctly. Unless the IP has been off recently, I would rule out timing issues. They don't or can't just fall out of time by a tooth or two.

Check out the exhaust elbow. I've just read about this problem on another forum. Could save hours of wasted time and work.

I know the thread is about a Volvo 2020/2030 but I'm sure they are the same engine, or very closely related.
