Old Single Wire Fuel Sender Help

I have a 1983 Dufour 12000 CT.

I am trying to find a gauge to match my original fuel sender, however, I'm lost.

I do not have the original gauge, only the sender.

The sender only has one electric spade. There is no ground connection.

The sender has the following numbers on it which turn up nothing on Google. I may be wrong on a number as its difficult to read.

089138 01
12V J8 H563

Any ideas on what this is? How to test it? How to hook up a gauge and what type?

I previously used only a sight gauge but emptied my tanks for cleaning this week and discovered I had 175 gallons of fuel in the boat when i thought i had about 75. Yes, 100 EXTRA gallons.

Re: Old Single Wire Fuel Sender Help

that's tough. it must be grounded thru the mounting. Single wire only does not work.

All senders I am aware of have an SAE mounting plate, 5 holes in specific pattern so it mounts correctly. This does not.

Fuel senders come in different ranges. Common on boats are 0-90 and 240-33.

If you can figure out the range (multimeter between terminal and body when moving float) you can hunt down a gauge.

Re: Old Single Wire Fuel Sender Help

The link actually has programmable gauges so will work with an oddball sender.
