Oil For Kanzaki KM4A

I think this has been asked before, but I am still not sure I understand the answer.

What oil should be used in the Kanzaki KM4A gearbox used by many Yanmar engines?

The data plate say "20/30 HD". Which means what? Monograde either 20W or 30W? Or 20W-30 multigrade? Which I don't think I've ever seen.

I think I have always used the same oil as I use in the engine -- 15W-40. But maybe this is not right. I have had some very slight problems with the gearbox slipping after extended running at very low RPM.

Grateful for all tips.

Single grade oil for the gearbox. Heavier oil for warm temperatures.

Yes, straight oil for the tranny, preferably with no detergents etc.

Use 30w oil per the manual.

Agri AS Trans Plus 20W-30 - Off-Road Other Products

It's an uncommon weight, that's for sure. I doubt straight 30w would be any different anywhere the temp stays above 10c.

a QM20 isn't going to have a KM4A tranmission on it. the bell housing on a QM20 is too small. the KM4A manual states 20 or 30 weight oil. Unless you plan on operating your trans at -18c then 30weight oil is fine
