Oil Filter Problem

I'm changing the oil on my Perkins 4-108 (Oil filter at back of block and not much room to maneuver.

Using a filter wrench and applying as much pressure as I can, I still can't get it to spin. I've applied heat and placed the filter wrench in various positions on the filter and all I've accomplished is collapsing the side of the filter.

Any thoughts?

I have taken a long handle screwdriver and pierced them before, a big, strong one, stick it all the way through both sides and use the handle to loosen, yes it may tear the can some.
Of course it will bleed oil like a stuck pig so be prepared to catch that.
It used to be common on new cars of the 70’s to have the oil filter stupid tight, I don’t know why, but the factory filter sometimes took excessive force to remove.
The screwdriver always worked for me, just use a strong one

Tried it, still no go.

Sent girlfriend up to Aceto buy a steel pipe that will fit over screwdriver for more leverage.

First oil change after complete rebuild. They must have use a gorilla to screw it on...

If you can fit it in, got to Harbor Freight and get a large locking pliers and grab the filter right at the top. Maybe you could rent one.

Another way is with a hacksaw. Cut or beat a piece out of the can and cut through the outer metal ring and down to the gasket, but be careful. Once the ring is cut you can get a wedge in there and drive under the seal. A wood wedge is best, or brass or plastic one.
The seal may not have been lubed. Common for the seal to seize w/o lube.

Final solution to oil filter problem.

I got some 20 inch locking pliers and tried to get the filter off. No go due to not enough room to get any leverage.

Finally took whole assembly off, took it to my diesel mechanic where they put it in a vise and used a large pipe wrench on the sucker to get it off.
