OEM or aftermarket rebuild kit? Volvo D255

Anyone have operating experience with a rebuilt Volvo D255 with after market rebuild kit v OEM kit? Engine time about 3700 hours. It ingested the air filter. Valves salvaged. Pistons salvaged but had to heat them to get rings off. Boat is in Antigua with Service King (Jessie).

Trying to decide which way to go. Rebuild with aftermarket was quoted at $5500 and OEM will come in around $8000. That includes new pistons and rings. Not afraid to spend the extra money if it means less down the road, but after market gets us going faster.

I look forward to your sage input. Thanks!

Exchange engine around $3,000 US.
New engine $5300 (with gear box)
Rebuild $5,500-8,000.

The company address is in Malaysia, Bukit Jalil and it gets a bad score on several sites that are dedicated to scam detection. Also connected to Indonesia on linkedin so proceed with caution.

By the time the OP ships his old engine from Antigua to Brisbane and pays the GST and shipping of the rebuilt Dieselworks engine back to Antigua, the Aussie deal is more expensive than the Antigua rebuild plus the warranty is in Australia so if the D2-55 snuffs it in the 12 month warranty period you get to send it back to OZ again.
Oh, Dieselworks is a well respected rebuilder, I’ve had dealings with them in the past…. No complaints at all and a very good, well equipped workshop, just not an option if you happen to be in Antigua.
