Oceanic Innovations Yanmar Mounts - reviews?

Hi all,

It's time to replace the mounts on my Yanmar 2GM20F. I am debating between OEM and the redesigned ones from Oceanic Innovations. Does anyone have experience with the latter? Thanks!

They “look” good, on the Oceanic webpage, however I’d [probably] stick with the OEM Yanmar mounts.
The Roll Over Protection strap is sold separately [$26/each Cdn].

That’s an interesting video, I’d buy Ellebogen based on that load test. The problem with Yanmar mounts is that the steel parts corrode and the rubber parts company with the frame, they’ll still support the engine well enough but certainly not in the rare event that the boat rolls over. Following the catastrophic Sydney Hobart race the equipment rules were amended after the damages sustained were investigated, batteries were a major problem in the rough conditions and now must be sealed and very substantially secured, I wonder if the engine mounts were part of this investigation.

La Vagabonde had an incident where their sheet got caught in their prop - they also have a regen setup on their boat and it put enough pressure on the mounts to bend the metal but there didn't appear to be any separation of the rubber. I'm sure the OEM mounts are built with rollover in mind - just throw a coat of spray paint on to prevent them rusting!

Curious How do they bond the rubber to the metal?

Re: Oceanic Innovations Yanmar Mounts - reviews?

Yanmar mounts of the type fitted to the GM series ( and the larger version on the early 4LH engines) have one other potentially serious flaw…. Diesel fuel makes em swell up and detach. This is most commonly seen on the mount near the injector pump, the bleed screw on the fuel pump is able to spray or trickle fuel onto the engine mount during priming and its amazing how much that rubber insert can grow and throw out the alignment….and how quickly it can happen
