New starter for the Perkins 4-108

Well, it was about time:

I removed the old starter after 5 years and 936 hours since last overhaul.

Asked the shop to re-build the old one and to buid me another used one for a spare.

No core in stock so they suggested a brand new starter:

Turned out they had a new "kind": half the size, half the weight and it fit the 4-108 with no fuzz or no modifications.

The new starters are made in Argentina and it was a pleasure to install due to size and weight. (I could fit the spanners behind the starter and see what I was doing)

It also spun faster than the old one and really cranked that old diesel..

The price was $226.00 plus 6% sales tax, $240.00 total.
They overahuled the old starter for $80.00 and gave me the left-over parts: 4 brushes, the drive and the solenoid.

I can highly recommend this shop as I have been dealing with them in the past for my alternator and starter overhauls:
