Nanni Diesel (14hp) will not rev in reverse gear

Have you found a solution? I have same engine gearbox and folding prop as original poster.
I rang Nanni rep who thinks it is probably gearbox issue. I sure hope not. One guy in this thread said his was fuel shutoff solenoid out of adjustment. I'm going to try that.
Gearbox would seem unlikely given there are at least three of us with the identical issue.

This is very very likely about the cable and the lever - as in the video. At times the revs cable engages well in forward but not in reverse. And the opposite.


Engine transmission and the prop are nearly certainly fine.

You must first isolate the problem.

Tie the vessel up tightly, with good lines, to a sturdy dock. Enlist a helper to assist in starting and stopping the engine.

Remove the throttle cable from the engine throttle arm, and the shift cable from the transmission shift arm.

Engage transmission shift arm into FWD by hand. Move engine throttle arm to wide open, by hand. You will see full throttle in FWD.

Engage transmission shift arm into REV by hand. Move engine throttle arm to wide open, by hand. You will see full throttle in REV.

If so, the problem is off engine. Investigate your control head and cables.

Hello Mawfish - refer to Sandydog above. I , too, have found that the problem is with the fuel cut off/ stop lever. Mine is manual , with a cable that shuts off the fuel when the know is pulled. If the lever is even slightly back from the stop, the engine will not rev in reverse. Push the lever against the stop and all is fine.
Oddly not the same effect in forward. I will be looking at a way to mount a spring to hold the lever against the stop.
Very relieved that it is not major.
