Mixing Elbow Question and Crack (Dont Know the Name)

The cast iron elbow that mixes the water with the exhaust on my Yanmar 4JT2-te has a crack on it about 3 inches long. It is not leaking but I am worried. The crack has moved 1/2 inch in the last 300 engine hours. Should I stop drill it.. It is light grey and has big exhaust hoses coming off it. Can not remember the name. Advise is welcome on what to do with this crack. Thanks James

If it's moving then you might want to figure out why. Since it's moving, I'm not sure drilling it will do much to prolong its life. I'd recommend replacing it and monitor the new one closely to make sure the problem doesn't return. I'd keep the old one and do what I could to make it serviceable. It could be a valuable spare.

It is a toasted elbow - which is better than a tennis elbow! Although it may not be leaking water, it may be exhausting an odorless gas which is unhealthy!
