Kubota EA300 oil level dip stick

The dipstick screws into the block. Do you check the oil level with the dipstick screwed in or just touching the hole? Would seem to be an almost one inch difference.
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob - there are no threads, so the dipstick cannot screw into the block. Check the oil level by completely seating the dipstick as far as it will go into the engine. Joe [ marine diesel mechanic]

This one does actually screw into the block. It's the oil fill with the dipstick attached to the plug.

Never seen that, you must have a very early model engine, OR it was reengineered by Onan, or other company. Joe

Looks quite original to me. Dip stick is part of the fill plug.

Re: Kubota EA300 oil level dip stick

I have looked at pictures of a Nextgen and see where there is a dipstick next to the fill cap. This engine was installed on the boat in the early 2000s and was used at that time.
See attached picture.

Sounds like someone modified your dipstick if there are no marks to indicate fill levels on it. Manual calls for push type dipstick and is marked; see;

Y'all must think I'm a complete idiot. One more time, the dipstick is part of the oil fill plug.
The dipstick is marked. Do I check the level after screwing the plug in or with it just touching the hole? Look at the picture I attached previously. There is NO separate dipstick and NO the block has not been modified.
But thanks anyway, I will now sign off,
Bob

Hang in there Bob, some of us understand your question and it a reasonable question!

While I can't answer directly for your EA300, I do know that several other engine manufacturer's that use the identical style of dipstick in a screw filler cap state you measure without screwing the filler cap home. Yanmar for one; they use the same arrangement on their Y series of engines.

It sort of makes sense as many would be too lazy to screw/unscrew the cap each time while dipping / wiping / checking again.
