I want a Tohatsu 5hp propane OB for a kicker on my canoe stern. suppose I hung it over the side, turned it within it's own bracket 90 or perhaps 80 degrees and locked it down (steer with rudder). would the motor survive the torque? boatt doesnt have much freeboard so would a short shaft work?
Short shaft side gunwale mount will be a problem when heeling unless you use some sort of sliding or pantograph-type mount or take it off when you sail.
If you mount it with the motor bracket sideways it's enough side load that it will tend to pull the clamps off whatever bracket you're using.
