Re: Johnson raw water pump. What rpm? (And leaks)

Hi Des
I have the parts catalogue for the entire range of Johnson impeller pumps so I initially thought I could give you a speedy and accurate answer but there’s 15 pages of F5B-9 variations and seal configurations. Is the pump belt driven or gear driven?.... mechanical seal or lip seal?

Re: Johnson raw water pump. What rpm? (And leaks)

Hi Skippergate, thanks for getting back, the pump is belt driven, it's an F5B - 9002,10-24119-2,so god of you to go to the trouble, I've tried jonson and perkins, you should work for them, thanks so much, you wouldn't know werher it is the shaved end or the flat side of the bronze seal guide that fits on top of the bearings that faces the pump body would you,???

After browsing the catalogue I’m still not coming up with with a definite answer but maybe these pics might help. It’s amazing what difference the change of a single number in the pump identifier can make. Click image for larger version

Des,
I don't think I can add any more. Also I don't see the spacer on the drawings for your pump??

Re: Johnson raw water pump. What rpm? (And leaks)

My pump finally stopped leaking! After years of changing literally everything except the pump body, an engineer suggested grease on the lip seal of my StrongSeal prop shaft seal. So next time I had the water pump apart I put a little marine grease around the water-side lip seal. I don’t think it worked straight away, but after a few trips the water leak stopped, and hasn’t restarted, in probably 50 hours motoring. So maybe the seal just found a happy place!
