In your situation, mostly
day sailing with ability to
plug in over night ,
electric may
work with or without a genset.
On the other hand, my last
boat was a 47' sail
catamaran with twin diesel/electric auxiliaries. Each
electric motor was about 30 hp powered by a 27kw 240DCV genset. The maiden
cruise was from Valdivia,
Chile to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. For
long term cruising in lightly populated areas straight
diesel auxiliaries currently still are more efficient and in most situations a better fit for the job.
