I want to take my temperature

I'm wondering if the temperature gauge on my boat is reading correctly. I'd like to know if a surface scan of the engine using a laser thermometer would be a way to determine if the gauge actually works as it should. Also, what is considered to be a normal surface temperature of a Yanmar 2QM20?

Thanks in advance,

Re: I want to take my temperature

A reading near the engine side of the thermostat would be close.

A 2QM20 is raw water cooled so it's operating temperature will be around 50C. The 2QM20Y and 2QM20F is coolant cooled and will be somewhat hotter than 50C.

A good spot to measure the head temperature is near where the anodes are fitted to the head (either one).

The thermostat is mounted on the water cooled exhaust manifold.
