Need close ups of the markings on the engine.
Model number would be nice.

If the manufacturer won't supply the info you want, don't buy one.

Weichai use exactly that shade of blue to paint their engines.... and they also use that reduction gear.

Re: I need the brand name of this engine.

A Chinese thing of dubious durability for $3000, a Perkins M92B with 86 hp, a robust and tested engine for about $9000, I imagine that a 150 hp equivalent should be around 15k up, you get what you pay for.. .probably being a new engine will be no problems, with a few hours left over it is uncertain.

1. Yes, a few hybrid manufacturers now. But new technology so expensive and probably not good yet.

2. Yanmar are good.

3. No, car engines don’t work well on boats for more reasons than I can count. Just no. 50 years ago, maybe, but not now.

Betamarine has a line of hybrid engines developed in conjunction with another company.

Re: I need the brand name of this engine.

A video of a running vs stopped engine provides very little useful additional information. What would be interesting is what sort of sailboat you’re designing that requires such a large heavy engine, the one you posted about is more for a trawler or commercial application. To get accurate information here you should add some details of the actual vessel you want to propel. NO to the car engine but yes to the cooling. It’s relatively easy to connect an external heat exchanger or keel cooler but a helluva lot of work to make up water cooled exhaust manifolds for a V8 diesel ( I assume you did mean diesel, not gasoline) and manufacturing a gearbox adapter for a reversing reduction gear is quite a challenge. The 150 hp Yanmar is likely to be a 4LHA, excellent engine but probably around $25,000 for the package and this price is rapidly increasing.
Good luck with your design.

If you are designing your own sailboat, and you need a 150 HP engine and need the "cheapest one possible", I would strongly suggest that you design a smaller sailboat that needs a smaller cheaper engine.

I am thinking your desires are way bigger than your wallet.

Re: I need the brand name of this engine.

Pretty blue paint color......what could possibly go wrong?......

- No sea water pump supplied for the seawater cooled heat exchanger
- Enormous high mounted heatexchanger....can it fit in the engine room?
- Dry turbo with no blanket and no water cooled exhaust elbow
- skid mounted with no provision for flexible isolators (industrial engine)
- no statement of emission compliance...what are the requirements in your country?
- any instrumentation supplied?
- gearbox cooler?
