Help

Hi guys
Just cleaning one of my Cummins 504
Can anyone tell me what this is and why is it electrically powered

It’s an oil pressure sender, not electrically powered. It changes its resistance as the oil pressure changes.

If you don’t have an oil pressure gauge, it could be an oil pressure switch to drive the buzzer, it could also be an oil pressure switch to run a Hobbs meter.
First I guess is to ensure it’s connected to the oil galley, then it’s oil related of course.

I’d be curious to know what the cut wires are for.

You mean the wire attached to it?

Its the wire that the gauge uses to measure the resistance of the sender unit. If you disconnect that wire the gauge will either read zero or high, depending on what the indicating sense is.
