Heat exchanger rubber end cap stuck

I have a Bowman heat exchanger with a rubber end cap that is supposed to pull off once the two hose claimps are released. However it seems to be well and truly stuck to both the heat exchanger body and the core. Any ideas as to how to get it off without destroying it? Heat gun or some sort of solvent perhaps??
