Heat Exchanger Orings 4JH4 TE

I am about to reassemble my heat exchanger on a 4JH4TE Yanmar and was thinking of putting some gasket sealant on the end plate Orings ????
Those of you in the know might help me here is it a good idea or bad thought it might add to the seal.

Re: Heat Exchanger Orings 4JH4 TE

My philosophy has always been if the surfaces and oring or gasket are in good condition then assemble as it was designed, however if surfaces are damaged or oring/gasket not great then use the smallest amount of sealant that will correct the problem.

Note. Any sealant on the flange may reduce the effective crush on the oring causing bigger problems later on.

This assumes of course that the components were designed and manufactured to a standard that prevents failure in the first instance, not always the case.

My 2 bobs worth......

Cheers Greg
