Re: Had boat hauled, refloated, no raw water flow?

Had similar "unexplainable" water pump">raw water pump failures (i.e. everything clear, good impeller, good gaskets, etc etc.)

One was a failure of the screw holding the cam in place. Looked fine when opening the pump, but saw it move when bumping the engine.

Other was failure of the (nylon) drive gear. Again diagnosed by bumping the engine with the pump cover off.

Re: Had boat hauled, refloated, no raw water flow?

I have a similar problem. I find that if I remove the top of the raw water filter, which is above the pump on my boat, fill the filter housing with water, replace the top and have another go that the pump is primed. The smart thing is to close the intake side thru hull before hauling. Maybe I will remember next time.

Re: Had boat hauled, refloated, no raw water flow?

Another possible fault: sometimes the cover plate becomes scored and worn to the point that the pump won't dry prime, but works ok once going. Check the cover plate and if there is visible wear, clean up the outside of the plate with some sandpaper on a flat surface and just turn it over.

Has worked for me a couple of times.
