Gearbox id & oil problem

I think my gearbox is a VOLVO but what model not sure. Have searched the net but no luck finding a manual. It is attached to a Volvo MD22. The gearbox has developed an oil leak. Can any one point me to detail manual or drawing so I can work out how to access it so track leak. Getting to it will require a super strong midget by the look of it.
Many thanks for any assistance.

Re: Gearbox id & oil problem

A thread on this forum in 2014 recommended replacing any worn out Volvo Penta transmission with a ZF25A or ZF45A. Not my area of expertise, but it was easier to find the thread than it was to find the drawing you want.

Re: Gearbox id & oil problem

Your gearbox is most likely an MS2-A but could also be an MS2-L....

A= down angle shaft
L= horizontal shaft

You can also find different variations of these gears like MS2A-B or MS2A-D, etc, which just indicates submodels or generation of the gear.

If you search online under these models I think you can find a manual.

If no luck here, maybe a photo would be helpful.

Re: Gearbox id & oil problem

Most transmission leaks are either from the input shaft seal or output shaft seal. Try to figure out if the leak is coming from the bell housing on not and you are 50% of the way there. Replacing a seal is usually not too tricky.
