In an absolute emergency you could. It wouldn't work well, because the problem with water is that it's boiling point is too low, so it changes from a liquid to a gas.

It's also corrosive to brake system components.

This is an old bush trick (life hack in modern interwebby parlance) when having brake issues (leaking cylinders or whatever). Bung water into the master cylinder, bleed and travel slow, keep topping up the water. Gets you back to civilisation ...

Done it myself on occasion (back in the day )

You do know brake fluid (oil) is a liquid. 🤔

Water would rust up a brake system within days. Very dangerous!
