Fuel Pump Died - I Need to Find a Replacement - 12V2401

Hey Guys, my fuel pump is dead so I need to find a replacement.

The numbers on the pump are 12V2401. It's the pump between the fuel filter and the water separator. It's not attached to the engine. I can't find a direct replacement and was wondering if anyone has had to replace one of these before. The closest thing I can find is a Carter P4603HD. However, I want to make damn sure before I move forward with this.

is it a primary pump or an assist pump--if is an assist pump, NAPA has a 60 dollar wonder--buy 2, have a spare. work great.

I believe it's an on-demand assist pump. I'm not 100% certain, but it's not attached to the engine itself. I just want to make sure I get a correct replacement part.

for an assist pump, any one will do, as long as fits your hoses--isnt a regulation or engine part from factory-- whatever one you wish to pay for and use is the one, they price from 50-over 150 dollars--i bought 2 of the under 75 dollar ones, and my first one is perfect. it only assists in bleeding engine and delivery of fuel to the lift and pressure pumps. makes bleeding engine much easier than manually using lift pump.

If so, it is discontinued, so you will either have to find a re-manufactured, or just buy some other 12V fuel pump. Really not critical which one, this pump is only there to lift fuel from the tank, push it through the filters, so that the pump on your engine doesn't have to do all that on the suction side.

Sorry, in my previous post (which went to the moderators) I failed to check out your Carter replacement. That is probably not a good replacement if what you are replacing is a fuel assist lift pump. The Carter is a positive displacement pump. That means it will continue to pump (and increase pressure) regardless of what is happening downstream. For a fuel assist going to the engine you do not want positive displacement.

Not sure about the exact relationship, but Walbro and Bellows are somehow related. Walbro suggests:

Walbro is what I've been looking at as well. I'll pick up a couple of those and replace all the lines while I'm at it.

I'm with Zeehag. NAPA sells an universal on demand fuel pump. It happens to be an exact replacement for my Westerbeke generator and I also use one in between the tank and the Racor to simplify refilling the Racor. Being in front of the Racor shortens their life a little, but at $50, who cares!

The PSI on that one is a little high in comparison to what I've been recommended. I was told to stay around 5-7psi. Will this 9-11psi cause any problems?

I will assume that the motors are carburated? If so you will burn your boat to the water line with anything over 8 psi and 8 is high.

So SORRY. I now see the "Twin Crusader 270 (Gas). I just live in a diesel world. I forget there are people running gasoline engines!

Hah, no worries. I'm assuming that I can put any 12v low pressure on demand fuel pump between 5-7 psi? Would it be safer to just grab an impeller type that will just keep spinning and not generate any excessive pressure?
