Angry Fuel Problems

Hi, I am running Volvo md2030's in my vessel.I was doing some manoeuvres on my boat a couple of weeks ago when the port engine would idle only and not rev up. Using the hand throttle would work, but I had to work the lever a few times. I changed both fuel filters and it seemed to work alright. I put my boat on the beach yesterday to change some oil seals and right at the worst possible moment the problem came back again, with the engine just idling again. I'm stumped!!
The main breather in the fuel intake is not blocked up. If I was to go on the boat now and start it up, it would run fine for at least 10 minutes or so, until I put it back to neutral and tried to rev it again. Anyone got any ideas on what to do to fix this problem.

Re: Fuel Problems

G'day,
1. Make sure stop is going into the 100% fuel on position.
2. Make sure throttle lever is not turning on spindle.
3. Check that Teleflex cable is tight in outer casing Clamp.
4. Check lift pump diaphragm, crud under valves or filter screen.
5. Tank supply line or filter clogged.
6. Do easiest first.

Cheers.

Re: Fuel Problems

All of the above, plus if you have separate tanks and/or separate pickups, sometimes the tank manufacturers (I guess just to irritate diesel engine owners) put a screen on the end of the pickup tube that becomes clogged. If this is the case, remove it. You may have to cut the tube to get it off.

If there's one on one tube, there's one on the other, so might as well do it while you're at it too...

This tends to suggest it is a problem with the Morse controls rather than a blockage or constriction starving the motor for fuel.
