Oops, forgot it was a Yanmar. I'm more familiar with the Kubota and Detroit engines and they're all gear driven. Anyway, the pump is on a second belt, doesn't go around the alt, correct? In which case a loose alt belt wouldn't effect it.

Re: fan belt/rev meter/impeller question

so much fantastic info here!!! thank you

we got it fixed and carefully tightened and set off assp. we used a a winding socket set handle (a curvy hand tool with the L-shape) to carefully get the alternator in place.

i think the fan belt needed changing but have noted the slipping thing and the battery discharge relationship (great learning these things!!!)

the tachometer (thanks for term) started working right off. great to know the relationship to the fan belt!!

and yes, i confused impeller raw water function w cooling system pump. we topped up the coolant
the impeller is on the to-do list on the hard in late sept/oct.

the engine Nanni 100 from 2015 ran great! good sound, good smell, happy!

am utterly exhausted now and need sleeeeeep. not enough for a few days now (7th night on this trip) but have been really enjoyingall of this trip: being a part of all these problems to solve has been fantastic. the boat is gorgeous and i felt so proud jumping on and off with her lines!

tomorrow we reach final port and boat gets hauled a couple days later... ive done almost all the teak and get to help pack up and clean up. might learn to winterize (fingers crossed!)

thanks SO very much everyone!!! so appreciate your input. youve seriously helped save the day
