Exhaust smell

Hi all
I have a curious one here. Woke up yesterday morning to an odd smell in the cabin, eminating from a locker in the head. I thought originally it was the smell of just lit matches, but now think it could be the smell from an exhaust. With all the portlights open the smell remains annoying, but with them closed the aft cabin is virtually uninhabitable.

I hadn't run either the engine or the genny for a couple of days previously. I ran both the engine and genny this morning for half an hour and took out the wall of the cabinet to have a look at the exhaust pipes (they are fibreglass behind the bulkhead) to check for leaks. There are no leaks and the smell doesnt get worse when they are running nor does it go away when they are stopped. Ive also put a smoke and CO alarm in the cabinet and closed the door but it hasn't gone off.

There is no smell in the adjoining engine room or the transom where the pipes exit.

So does anyone have any pointers on what might be going on?!

Exhaust smell

Some type of mold / mildew would be my guess.

This stuff, works. It can be found at Lowe’s or Home Depot if your in the US and on Amazon.

Interesting, a quick google has thrown up Aspergillus that can smell like oil, grease or car exhaust.

I'll add the concrobium to my shopping list......

Exhaust smell

It’s a natural substance, very similar I think to baking soda, no smell and it does work. Without looking at a label I think it’s sodium carbonate, baking soda is sodium bicarbonate?
I stayed too long in cold weather last year and we were fighting mold and mildew, the Concorbian stopped it, wasn’t a problem once we sprayed everything with it.
