Engine well V transom mount OB

I have a rather unusual (here in the States anyway) twin keel pocket cruiser.
It's an old Kingfisher K20.
It has an aft engine well, and a cramped cockpit.
I'm thinking a retractable transom mount for my 6HP Johnson makes more sense on several levels.
I'm thinking this could be fairly easy to accomplish, reduce drag, add space to my cockpit and so on.
Thoughts? Anything glaring that I missed?
There is a small sliding hatch on the hull that partially closes if the motor is not installed, and originally the motor mount "supposedly" tilted so get the lower out of the flow.
If I'm going to close this off, I'd like to do it soon as my bottom needs painting.
