Electric motors...thoughts/experiencesexperience

Ive never had used or. Known anyone with an electric motor. Im thinking about putting one on a large houseboat.
Just wanted to get some info and thoughts if anyone had good or bad experiences. Anything to watch out for.....and so on ..

Electric motors are great.

The problem is getting an extension cord long enough....seriously, the issue is batteries hold a tiny amount of power compared to a gallon of gas/diesel. The alternative is adding a large generator but now it's more expensive than just using the generator engine to directly power the prop.
