Diesel filter element

Hi folks,
On my 2005 Volvo D-2 55 primary diesel filter is a Racor 500PG which I use both for filtering the diesel going to the engine and to polish the diesel tank.
So far I have used 2010SM 2 micron elements that gave me an altogether fine clean diesel.
I find it quite difficult to obtain those 2 micron elements and I wonder if using the 10 micron elements will do any difference ?
The 10 /30 micron are easy and cheap to get through the Chinese suppliers that we all use.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks
Alex

Re: Diesel filter element

What filter density does Volvo recommend for that engine? Whatever, I'd use that.

Re: Diesel filter element

Is there a secondary filter after the Racor?
If so you can use a 10 or 30u filter as a primary.

Re: Diesel filter element

Use a 10micron element in the Racor 500 and the standard Volvo secondary on the engine. That will give you the best combination of filtering efficiency and long filter life.

Re: Diesel filter element

I run 10 micron in my Racor 500 primary, factory Westerbeke secondary (2 micron?).

I also run a staged 10 micron and 5 micron fuel polisher which is on whenever my engine is running. My 10 micron Racor is rarely dirty even after a season.

Re: Diesel filter element

10 is fine. You can go 5 or 2 on the engine mounted filter if you want.
