Harmony has it correct.....
The prior 30 h.p. model, the MD 2030 had only one oil fill opening, the one in the valve cover. With the
introduction of the D1-30 engine and the new shaped timing case, the decision was taken by VP to include the oil fill opening in the timing case as well as in the valve cover. This location is used in most industrial applications of this engine, and it also comes in handy in some
marine applications where space is limited above the engine. You can add oil from either location, it all ends up in the oil pan.
