Cost of Installing a New Diesel ?

À little bit interested in à boat which needs to have à new diesel installed. The new engine comes with the boat.

The owner has received one quote but that seems steep, about 10k for labour and anorher 5k for material.

Better luck asking around à little bit more maybe. How much is normal?

Let the owner worry about that. Make an offer for the boat with new engine installed and working 100%.

cheers,
Nick.

Re: Cost installing new diesel?

It boils down to the differences between the two engines. Bigger means bigger everything; like engine beds, exhaust, raw water supply, battery/charging system. This list could be nearly endless. Any information from this forum would only muddy the puddle without a true on-site estimate. A easier question to guesstimate would be: "How long would it take to walk across the Atlantic?".

Re: Cost installing new diesel?

What might make the deal worthwhile is if you are able to do the removal of the old engine and installation of the new engine yourself. Unless the engine are exact duplicates of each other, there are a lot of variables and lots of "thinking how" time involved in getting the new engine to work with the old engines wires, cables, hoses, filters, etc., etc. That is why the labor cost seems high.

As Seahunter says: "A easier question to guesstimate would be: "How long would it take to walk across the Atlantic?"."

- - The answer to that is - 61 days. See: FRENCHMAN FULFILLS LONGTIME DREAM OF MANKIND BY `WALKING' ACROSS ATLANTIC OCEAN IN 61 DAYS | Deseret News
