Corrosion and possible leak of condensation (Mercedes OM636)?

I have some corrosion on my OM636's injection pump, which may come from leak above (cooling system??).

How should a tackle the cleanup? Is it possible to remove the injection pump and just give the stuff a good wire brush, and repaint it?

For the source, I'll check the raw water hoses and connections first.

Re: Corrosion and possible leak of condensation (Mercedes OM636)?

Hi - I have also got an OM636 and I am replacing it with a beta.
I have a brand new mechanical lifter pump (new in box, as they say on eBay) which you might be interested in.
As well, my injection pump is in good working order and (no offense) looks brand new compared to whatever happened to yours.
I have a bunch of other spare stuff too, which I will no longer need.
Thanks,
Dave

Find and fix the source of the problem and then worry about cleaning up the mess.

Without knowing your engine I would advise getting a workshop manual & follow the process to remove injection pump. You have to be very careful not to get any dirt inside the injection pump as they depend on tight tolerances. If it's working fine I'd definitely try cleaning & painting but first do as post #3 says

Hey Tom, I have that Mb engine too... 35 ft sloop from England. I'm not a mechanic so no real help from me until if it happens to mine... so good luck. I am in sandy hook,nj heading south and the PO left a bunch of gaskets and spare engine parts if we can cross paths l may have a gasket for you. I saw the post and wanted to ask you how long it takes to start....in mine takes over a minute to catch when starting. Ross

Hi Ross,

It takes a bit to catch but somewhat shorter than a minute. There is a quick-start glow plug kit to remedy the problem.
