Cooling water in the bilge

I'm on a charter Beneteau in Mallorca and there's no support on the first of May, so I try here:

There is a small transparent tube (see picture) occasionally spitting cooling water (seawater) from the cooling circuit right into the bilge undder the engine.

We had 3ltrs yesterday with only little motoring and today it leaked about 2dl after engine start and then stopped.

Any ideas.

it is probably the anti siphon valve on the seawater intake ,fitted between the impellor pump and the heat exchanger.

these work ,ie seal, on positive pressure when the pump is pumping,but allow air to enter when the engine is stopped to break any siphon and avoid filling the engine with sea water.

the valve which will be located near the top of the engine compartment will be V,U or T shaped with the 2 seawater pipes from pump and heat exchanger attached and the clear hose at the top.

the valve should have at the top where the clear hose is attached a threaded fitting which can be unscrewed,with either a plastic ball inside or a spring and insert with a seal.

you can dismantle and clean surfaces inside so the ball or insert seals properly to fix the problem.

other wise if not leaking too much let the bilge pump handle the water and let the charter company engineer know that the anit siphon valve is leaking at the end of your charter

We took the thing apart today and found it contaminated. We cleaned it and it's fine now.

thats good you fixed it

worse is if they get blocked with salt and the engine fills with water

I just modified our cooling raw water vented loop to eliminate salt water fouling of the check valve. Removed the 1/8 NPT plastic duckbill valve, added a 1/8 NPT male to 1/2 male hose barb and a 12" length of cooling water hose rising to an inline 1/2" check valve and another hose to divert any spray down to the sole. The air cushion in the hose prevents the valve from ever seeing sea water, so this should eliminate one routine maintenance item.
