I am baulking at paying $180 for a Yanmar fresh water coolant hose. Has anyone found an alternative?

That price seems higher than for my 3gm30f. I replaced one but unfortunately didn't replace all.

Then of course I was remote to any Yanmar source and needed another.

So I went to an old school auto parts house. Not a modern chain store. I was hoping they would tolerate a manual search of their stock to find a hose with the diameter and bend I needed. It was not very long and just one ninety degree bend. Figured I could find a hose to cut a section out of to fit.

To my surprise they had a book that classified all the hoses by diameter and angles. Not by vehicle type. Took the old man a few minutes to find a match thumbing through the book. About eight bucks.

A case for going to the oldest store in town and talking to the oldest guy there. He has seen it all before.

Worked for me. Got a hose that I could cut both my remaining two hoses from.

I'm not sure which hose you mean, or if it would be the same as my 3GM30, but I found an alternative at Supercheap Auto.

The hose from the water pump">raw water pump to the heat exchanger had failed, and it was Thursday afternoon before a holiday weekend. No local stock so it was a delay issue for me rather than price. A trip to SCA and I found a heater hose for a 5 litre V8 Commodore had identical twists and turns after I cut some off each end.

The rubber felt very soft in comparison, but it's still holding 2 years later. I think it was $20 - $25.
